After 15 issues of solid story telling, and comic book suspense, that you rarely see these days, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #16 is almost here, and still proves that IDW’s version of the turtles is a perfect one.

The book picks up where the last one left off, as the turtles are attacked by Slash, right when they were looking for a new home. It doesn’t take the four brothers long to know that the giant mutant snap turtle is going to be a problem for them unless they do something, permanent, about him. What follows up is a well written moral conversation between the brothers, while they are fighting slash, about whether it is right or wrong to kill him, knowing that he will not hesitate to do so.

Shifting to Krang, we are treated to a glimpse of future arcs, as the Utrom general is preparing his stone warriors and giving them a pre-battle speech before they go to war with the Nutrinos, something Chet is not happy about.

Back at April’s apartment where Splinter is meditating and waiting for his sons to return, Casey and Miss Oneil decide that they should track the Turtles to find if there whereabouts. As they reach the abandoned Church, the two young-lings soon realize that they arrived at the wrong time.

I will not spoil the outcome of the battle of Slash and the Turtles but i will say that the issue ends with the return of a character that we have not seen for a while.

The story and script is written by Tom Waltz who never ceases to amaze. The dialogues (especially the one about whether to Kill slash or not) is fantastic, the pace of the story is perfect. Yet again, another job well done for Mr Waltz.

The Issue is drawn by Andy Kuhn, and again still feels the wrong choice for this fantastic book. While Andy is a talented artist, his style does not work with the TMNT. Pretty much the same issues i had with the previous books are still there. The turtles are chunky, and have horrible, sticking out, teeth. The human characters are messy and their faces almost look distorted. With all due respect to Mr Kuhn, but i really miss Duncan more than ever, and really hope, whoever is taking over after Kuhn will do a, much, better job. The Colors, by Ronda Pattison, are as always gorgeous and vivid.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #16 is an amazing book, story wise, but the Art is very lacking and very hard to get used to. However with a great script, gorgeous colors, and some interesting plot twists, #16 is, still, a must buy for all TMNT fans out there.
