Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Micro Series #7: April Oneil Review *Warning: The review contains a Massive Spoiler*

It is hard to believe that the excellent TMNT Micro-Series have already reached a 7th issue. While last issue was good and focused on Casey Jones, this month’s Issue is one of the Best of the series and focuses on April Oneil as well as introduces a new Villain that will sure make old school Turtles fans cream Cowabunga!

The Issue focuses on Miss Oneil as she tries to find out what is going on at Stock-Gen labs. What started as a fun  exploring ended up being a nightmare for April, as she ends up facing the, intimidating, Rock Soldiers as well as, unintentionally causing the escape of a genetic experiment, from the Stockman genetics lab, that will surly come face to face with the Turtles in future Issues.

This mysterious character is none other than: (hi-light to reveal the spoiler) the palm tree lover, mutant snap turtle, SLASH! !!!!!!

The Story is written by Barbara Randall Kese, who keeps a consistent tone with the main series written by Tom Waltz. The choice of having most the issue run its course through April’s internal Monologue is a fun change of pace from the main series, that works for the Micro Issue.

The art is, amazingly, done by Marley Zarcone, who has a very beautiful style that is easy on the eye and can be seen as a mixture of all the previous incarnations of the franchise (Mainly the 90’s movies, 87 and 2k3 cartons as well as idw main series). In Fact i would love to see Zarcone take over the main IDW TMNT Series, currently being Drawn by Kuhn who, whom, besides his obvious talent in Art, seems to be a controversial choice among fans.

Colors are done by Heather Breckel, whose warm coloring style matches, perfectly, Marley’s art. A job Very well done Mrs Breckel!

All in all, this was a solid issue that, not only helps the progression of the character of April, but also introduces a new Character that will surely please old school TMNT fans.

Final Score: 8.5/10 (Must Buy)
