Review: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Color Classic #1

Coming out tomorrow, the first IDW color reprint of the classic Mirage TMNT comics will offer a new colorful look at the black and white comics of the 80’s.

There is no need to go into the story since we all know it by heart and at least read it 10 times. The main highlight of the book is the introduction of colors. So how does it look?

For an old Turtles fan since the 80’s i’m surprised to say that i really like the colored version of the book. While of course there is no way we can compare it to the black and white classic, just for the reason of it being classic, i think the colors are beautifully done and breath new life into a fan favorite comic. The dark mood and edginess is still present. And if you are afraid that the turtles will now have colored bandannas, then fear not, they all retain their classic red ones (even though i am a fan of the colored bandannas).

While the book does not offer anything new, especially that the hardcover ultimate edition of the mirage stories have just being released lately, i would still consider this a worthy entry. If you are a turtles collector, i think this will be a nice addition to your comics, and if you are a new fan of franchise, i think the colorful interpretation will be an easy gateway to get into the old Mirage TMNT stories.

Review score: 7.5/10 (Good)
